Participating in A-K in Texas Holdem

May 22nd, 2010 at 14:22

Each and every one who plays Texas Holdem understands that ace/king is one of the greatest starting hands. But, it is simply that, a starting hand. It is only two cards of a 7-card formula. In nearly every situation, you want to come out guns blaring with A-K as your pocket cards. When the flop arrives, you need to analyze your hand and consider things completely before you just presume your cards are best.

Like most other circumstances in texas hold’em, knowing your adversaries will help you gauge your position when you hold Ace-King and see a flop like nine-eight-two. Since you bet preflop and were called, you assume your competitor is also holding great cards and the flop might have by-passed them as poorly as it by-passed you. Your assuming will frequently be precise. Also, don’t forget that many bad players would not know good cards if they fall over them and could have called with Ace-Something and paired the poker table.

If your opposition checks, you might check and see a free card or place a wager and try to grab the pot up right then. If they bet, you can raise to observe if they are for real or fold. What you want to avert is simply calling your opponent’s bet to see what the turn results in. If any card other than and Ace or King is shown, you won’t have any more information than you did after the flop. So let us say the turn results in a 4 and your opponent wagers yet again, what will you do? To call a wager on the flop you need to believe your hand was the greatest, so you have to truly believe it still is. So, you call a wager on the turn and 1 more on the river to find out that your opposing player was holding 10-8 and only had second pair after the flop. At that point, it dawns on you that a raise following the flop might have won the money right then.

Ace-King is a gorgeous thing to see in your hole cards. Just be sure you compete in them astutely and they will achieve you great cheerfulness at the poker table.
