Online High Stakes Poker- Who is Gus Hansen?

November 27th, 2013 at 4:21

Gus Hansen enjoyed a marvelous year on the WPT where he was the only player to make it to the final poker table in three of the competitions. Gus Hansen has been seen on High Stakes Poker on The Game Show Network where he paid $400, 000 to play. You might remember one of the largest pots in high stakes poker history up against Daniel Negreanu. He won a large pot with quads against Negreanu’s full house. Gus has earned many televised poker appearances and is deemed to be one of the best gamblers around the world. While betting on online poker, another side of Hansen has appeared. Gus frequently participates in the 200/400 NL max buy-in of Forty Thousand dollars. Hansen frequently buys in for the min of $16, 000 and gambles very weak. He waits for a good hand and then pushes all in. I believe Hansen is a great poker player but certainly not even close to the familiar players at 200/400no limit. Unless he is bankrupt, he has absolutely no reason to sit at the table with the min buy-in.

Buying in for the minimum takes a majority of the expertise out of deep stack poker. Gus is supposed to be 1 of the best poker players anywhere in the world but he cannot buy in for the total amount. I think television can skew our view of the real world sometimes. The best players in the world might be guys you have won’t have heard of before. Gus can be seen betting on internet poker on Full Tilt. He usually participates in high stakes omaha hold’em and hold’em. Gus Hansen has shown himself as a competition player. Can he use his skills in money rounds?
