Poker has become world famous lately, with televised championships and celebrity poker game shows. The games popularity, though, arcs back in fact a bit further than its television scores. Over the years many variations on the first poker game have been created, including a handful of games that are not really poker anymore. Caribbean stud poker is 1 of these games. Despite the name, Caribbean stud poker is more closely related to vingt-et-un than old guard poker, in that the gamblers bet against the bank instead of the other players. The succeeding hands, are the long-standing poker hands. There is no bluffing or different types of boondoggle. In Caribbean stud poker, you are expected to ante up just before the croupier declares "No more bets." At that instance, both you and the house and of course all of the other gamblers receive 5 cards. Once you have observed your hand and the bank’s first card, you have to in turn make a call bet or surrender. The call wager’s amount is akin to your original bet, meaning that the stakes will have doubled. Giving Up means that your ante goes immediately to the house. After the wager is the showdown. If the house doesn’t have ace/king or greater, your bet is given back, including a figure on par with the original wager. If the casino has a hand with ace/king or better, you win if your hand defeats the dealer’s hand. The dealer pays out money equal to your original bet and set odds on your call wager. These expectations are:
- Even for a pair or high card
- 2-1 for 2 pairs
- 3-1 for three of a kind
- four to one for a straight
- five to one for a flush
- seven to one for a full house
- 20-1 for a four of a kind
- fifty to one for a straight flush
- 100-1 for a royal flush
