Internet Big Stakes Poker- Gus Hansen

October 11th, 2026 at 19:25

Gus Hansen had an amazing year on the WPT where he was the only participant to achieve last table in 3 of the competitions. Gus Hansen has appeared on High Stakes Poker on The Game Show Network where he paid $400, 000 to play. You may recall one of the biggest pots in high stakes poker history competing against Daniel Negreanu. He raked in a huge pot with 4 of a kind against Negreanu’s full house. Gus has earned many televised poker appearances and is considered to be one of the greatest gamblers around the world. While wagering on net poker, another side of Hansen has appeared. He often participates in the 200/400 NL max buy-in of Forty Thousand dollars. Hansen more often than not buys in for the minimum of Sixteen Thousand dollars and plays very poorly. He sits there waiting for a good hand and then pushes all in. I believe Gus is a great poker player but certainly not even close to the regular players at 200/400no limit. Unless he is penniless, he has no reason to settle at the game with the min buy-in.

Buying in for the min takes most of the expertise out of big stack poker. Hansen is presumed to be 1 of the best players anywhere in the world but he can’t buy-in for the total dollar value. I think television can alter our perception of the real world sometimes. The greatest players in the world may be guys you have never heard of before. Gus can be found playing web poker on Full Tilt. He generally participates in big stakes omaha/8 and hold’em. Gus Hansen has proven himself as a competition player. Can he use his skills in money games?
